When letters are still finding their shape
At this age, letters come out huge, lean every which way, and wander off the baseline. And that’s Okay. New writers need room and clear guidance, yet most handwriting books jump straight to small, grown-up lines, so little hands run out of space before a letter is finished. These wide 3/4” lines provide plenty of space and with the alternating line colours and dotted middle line forming letters feels achievable.
What’s inside
-
Line-size check A page for the parent or teacher to check which line size is best suited for the child right now. Grades and age are only a guide and there’s nothing wrong with the child skipping ahead or needing a larger size to boost their confidence.
-
Pencil warm-ups Short tracing and pattern exercises before longer writing. Use these before working with the blank pages or do a line or two before each session.
-
Alphabet reference Uppercase and lowercase letters on one spread for quick reference. Each has also space for tracing and copying the letter shape. Included are stroke guides for each letter.
-
Blank ruled pages Plenty of empty lined pages for copy work, sentences, and everyday practice.
Is 3/4 inch the right size?
Pick this notebook if your child is just starting out and letters still need the extra height to sit comfortably on the line. If they already write neatly on narrower school paper, they’re likely ready for Beginner Handwriting (5/8”) instead.
